Victoria’s students have a lot to say!

I started doing yoga in 1999 when I started law school. It was a lifesaver for that grueling time. I mostly did it at home watching videos. I found that there was little else that could undo the assaults of the day. I took a few classes at gyms over the years but eventually settled into a home practice where I pretty much picked the poses I wanted to do, which, of course, were the ones that were easy for me. Here it is 20 years later and I’m rounding the corner to my one year anniversary with Ashtanga yoga. My ex kept extolling its virtues and and, as well as he knew me, he was correct that I would take to the discipline of 6 days at week at 6 a.m. like a duck to water. I walked in the door one day and have been walking in every day since. It was obvious immediately what I was lacking because of the poses I was choosing to avoid. What I love about Ashtanga is that it won’t let me do that. The experience is more than just the method though. There is almost not enough that I could possibly say about Victoria as a teacher. She is welcoming, warm and tough as nails. Perfect for the job! As long as I’m breathing I will be practicing Ashtanga in one form or another. I hope I will always have Victoria as a teacher.

Victoria is the best! She has a big, open heart, a quirky sense of humor, and a lot of integrity as a teacher and a yogi. She adds a nurturing, feminine touch to what some would call a very rigid, masculine yoga practice. I love the balance of the two, not to mention she gives some of the best adjustments I’ve ever had! Her space is very inclusive and loving—all shapes, ages, and genders are welcome. As for Ashtanga yoga, it will mirror your life in ways you never dreamed of and help you align your body, mind, and soul. I highly recommend Ventura Ashtanga Yoga.

This practice is an elixir to Life, and has allowed me to cultivate strength and confidence within myself to move through the world. Victoria has created a beautiful and empowered ashtanga yoga community that was not here before!

I appreciate being a part of a yoga community with a common practice, yet each at are own level. Knowing that Victoria is there to watch, correct and encourage. I love the early sunrise mornings and believe that is the time I should be practicing.

My ashtanga practice is super new, a little more than 2 months. I used to take vinyasa flow classes at yoga studios, and I also have my own practice. I was always curious about ashtanga but the idea of having the same sequence every day was not very attractive to me. Now that I gave it a try I can say that every day is different, even though I go through the same poses, I feel my body shifting every time. Thanks to Victoria and her guidance, every day brings a new achievement or a new understanding about my body. It is actually super exciting to come to practice and leave with a new piece for this big ashtanga puzzle.

Over the course of the last year, my yoga practice has become an incredibly important part of my life. It’s more than meditation or fitness or any one particular thing - it’s a tool for me to build a life I truly believe in. I knew that I’d enjoy Ashtanga from my first encounter with it. There’s a comfort in the quietness and serenity in the structure. The room becomes simultaneously a place for personal practice and companionship. The structure is calming and profoundly challenging. Victoria has a unique ability to instruct with both firmness and kindness that I responded to quickly and my practice has progressed rapidly in working with her. There really is something magical about Mysore and I’m lucky I’ve found it.
